Director Gail O. Carter said Monday new auditions for "Once Upon a Mattress" are scheduled for the evenings of June 18-19 at the Marysville Arts Council building at E and Seventh streets.

"Enough people didn't turn out the first time, Carter explained. The show is being produced by Ponderosa Theater Company. Further details should be available soon.

"Once Upon a Mattress " is a musical stage play based loosely on the Princess and the Pea fairy tale. It has broad humor and some nifty songs well-spread among the cast of roughly 20 actors. It was the musical that launched the career of Carol Burnett.

Carter, a real estate saleswoman in real life, has been woking in community theater for many years. She said she was confident the show will do well in Yuba-Sutter.
