What Dahni's doing

Chuck Smith tells SDC:

Rumor has it Dahni Trujillo, who played Amanda/Agnes in Gypsy, will be headlining a musical revue at the Yuba-Sutter Fair this year. Not certain about the date yet.

Richard Rodgers would be 100 -- so hum a few bars...

Broadway giant Richard Rodgers (of Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II) would be 100 years old now, if he hadn't died, but his songs live on.

From "My Funny Valentine" to "Fallling in Love: (:with love is falling for make believe," Rodgers and his colloboraters left a big mark on American musical stage, movies and TV, if you recall "Cinderella" -- the only musical R&H2 ever wrte for live elevision -- and the score from "Victory at Sea."

Mark Steyn of Canada's National Post remembers Rodgers' contribution.

"Bugsy" try-outs tonight and rumerhazit...

...the producers want to hold rehearsals either from 1-3 p.m. or 3-5 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Little kids can't be expected to do evening rehearsals. After all, they have sugar plums to gather. But there are some problems here.

School's may be out and the all-kids cast members will have nothing to do with themselves, but play -- but what about the take-and-pickup parents?

It's a fine arrangement for the suburbanites with an SUV and plenty of other non-working soccer mom neighbors to split the transport chores with. But what about the real world?

Soccer Mom
Even the tennis-and-lunch crowd will be griping about the 1 p.m. deadline. Hell, it'll take them at least until two to finish off the chicken Caesar and the personal reputation of their ex-hubbie's new love interest.
At least set rehearsals for 3-5 p.m. That way at least one can drop off the kid(s) and the other pick he/she/it/them up on the way home from work.

A 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. schedule would be better. That 1-3 pm. is right in the middle of the day, guaranteed to maximize the damage done to the plans of the surrounding family and miminize the number of other things which can be accomplish in a day. Not enough time to start anything and too late to finish it.

If they want to take up that much time, why not be useful and set the rehearsals from 1-5:30 p.m? That way the working parent can drop off at lunch, pick up after work and get some day care services out of the deal.

As it stands, the two proposed rehearsal schedules are geared strictly for trust fund kids with a full-time Mary Poppins to haul 'em around.

The trouble doesn't end there.

Why this M-W-F schedule? Why not M-W-Th? On Fridays in the summer, many people want to get out of town. Having handcuffed the parents during the weekend, the producers also want to shackle them for the weekend.
