12:00h
The curtain goes up on the variety show, "Unplugged," 7 p.m. July 11 at the Yuba City City Hall courtyard. A number of "name acts" are on the bill, theater enthusiast Linda Plummer reported. Acts featured in this musical fund-raiser include the blues fusion band Blue Moon Risin'; a musical revue by Sacramento's Galena Street East touring company; numbers by Street Sounds, a Bay area a capella singing group that has performed with headliners like Pete Seeger, The Manhattan Transfer, The Persuasions, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Joe Henderson and others. In 1995, Street Sounds won three Contemporary A Capella Recording Awards for Professional Groups for their "Home Africa", Change" and Duke of Dubuque". Food, wine and assorted refreshments will be available at "Unpluuged. Tickets are $25 per person; $45 per couple, sponsors said. Proceeds will help build a new theater in Brownsville for the Ponderosa Theater Company. It would also help underwrite the forthcoming Yuba City Cultural Celebration. For tickets and information call 530-822-4650.
