Nothing like live entertainment for interactivity

This post comes from one of my favorite weblogs, "Words of My Neighborhood," which you can find here.

The 6/24/02 post is about a small live entertainmnt club down in Greenwich Village in New York City and something the poster heard on the way there from Princeton in New Jersey.

Overheard on the L Train

"I'm from Texas. In Texas, we don't have attitude faces!"

Saw Rainer Maria at Brownie's in the East Village. Took the NE Corridor to Penn Station, A train downtown to the L train, where I heard the amusing snippet above.

Club was tiny and hot. Kyle (guitar player, sometimes singer, guy I went to high school with) spotted me in the 2nd row mid-concert and exhorted the entire audience to buy me beers.

He is such an accomplished artist, and enjoys being on stage immensely. The joy of living rolls off of him like sweat off of, well, anyone at Brownie's last night.

Full story and pictures when I get home. I had a good time. My ears are still ringing. Tiny clubs make for major bad tinnitus.

For Left Coasters, the "NE Corridor" the writer refers to is the Amtrak train that runds from from Washington, D.C. to New York and Boston. It passes through New Jersey and picks up passengers there.

The A train is the illustrious Waashington Heights-to-Ozone Park "Take the A Train" of jazz fame. Manhattan stops run, south to north, from the Bowery to the Village up through the Rag District, Hell's Kitchen and Harlem to the Cloisters in Washington Heights. It is fair to say the A train stops at every station in the human comedy

The L Train runs from Eighth Avenue and 14th Street in the West Village to the East Village and thence across the East River to Queens and, ultimately, to Canarsie.
